Cookie Policy
Watson Labs, Inc., a Delaware corporation, operates Watson. In this policy, "Watson," "we," and "us" refer to Watson Labs, Inc. This policy explains how cookies and similar browser technologies work on our websites and applications that link to it, and how you can control them.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information, including your privacy rights and how to exercise them. This policy provides additional information about storage on your device.
1. Technologies covered by this policy
A cookie is a small text record that a website asks your browser to save. Your browser can send it back on later requests, allowing the website to recognize a session or remember information between pages.
We also use local storage, which retains information in your browser between visits, and session storage, which generally lasts for a browser tab's session. These technologies can hold identifiers, preferences, and activity information. References to "cookies" in this policy include these similar technologies unless we say otherwise.
Cookies set for our own domains are first-party cookies. A service provider may also operate technology on our behalf or set cookies for its own domain. A provider's name alone does not determine whether a cookie is first-party or third-party.
2. Why we use browser storage
We use browser storage for the following purposes:
| Purpose | What it does | Your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Requested services and security | Supports sign-in and account access, carries an invitation code into signup, and protects access to the service. | Storage strictly necessary to provide a service you request is used without optional analytics consent. Blocking it may prevent that service from working. |
| Privacy choices | Remembers whether you accepted or declined optional analytics. | We retain the choice so we can apply it on later visits. |
| Preferences | Remembers choices such as your last sign-in method or interface settings. | Where a preference is not necessary to provide a feature you request, we seek consent when required by law. |
| Analytics | Helps us understand visits and use of product features, identify friction, and improve Watson. | Optional analytics uses your consent where required. You can decline it. |
Depending on the page and enabled features, analytics events can include page addresses, browser information, timestamps, feature interactions, and account or workspace identifiers. We can use cookies and local storage to associate related activity, settings, and configurations. Browser identifiers may therefore be linked to an account when you sign in. You can see what sub-processors we use here.
3. Storage details and duration
Session cookies normally expire when the browser session ends. Persistent cookies have an expiry time and may be refreshed during later use. Local storage generally remains until the website removes it or you or your browser clear it. Browser settings can shorten these periods.
The examples below describe browser storage used by Watson. The exact storage used depends on the website, authentication flow, and enabled services.
| Name or identifier | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| watson_access_code cookie | Watson | Carries your early access invitation code into signup. | Up to 30 days; the application clears it after successful redemption. |
| watson_analytics_consent in local storage | Watson | Remembers your analytics choice for that website origin and browser. | No automatic expiry is currently configured; remains until cleared or replaced. |
| mp_last_auth_method cookie | Watson | Remembers your last sign-in method. | 365 days from when it is set. |
| Authentication and security storage | Watson and the configured authentication providers | Maintains authorized access and supports secure sign-in. | Depends on the authentication flow and session. Signing out can clear session access; browser controls can remove remaining site data. |
| PostHog cookies and browser storage | PostHog, on Watson's behalf | Associates analytics activity with a browser, session, or identified account. | Depends on the enabled analytics configuration and storage type. Local storage remains until cleared; session storage generally lasts for the tab session. |
These are browser storage periods. Information already transmitted to our systems may have a different retention period, described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Managing your choices
When the cookie prompt appears, select Accept to allow optional analytics or Opt out to decline it. Declining optional analytics does not prevent you from using the core service. Continuing to browse is not, by itself, consent to optional cookies.
You can decline optional analytics when the cookie prompt appears. To change a saved browser choice, clear that website’s site data and choose again when prompted. You can also contact hello@withwatson.co for help withdrawing consent. Account privacy settings and browser cookie choices may control different activities.
Choices may need to be set separately for different browsers, devices, or website origins. Clearing browser storage can also erase your saved choice, causing the prompt to appear again.
Your browser provides controls for blocking cookies and deleting cookies and other site data. Blocking all storage can sign you out or interfere with signup and other requested functions. Deleting a cookie does not necessarily delete information previously collected by a service provider. Contact us about requests concerning that information.
5. External services
If you follow a link to an external website or connect a third-party service, that service may use its own cookies under its own policy. This policy covers storage we control or arrange in connection with Watson. Your organization may also give you separate notices about its use of Watson and connected services.
6. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change and revise the effective date. If a change requires a new consent choice, we will request it before starting the relevant optional storage or collection. Publishing an updated policy does not itself supply that consent.
